The State of the Football Giants

January 4, 2006: The Professor Reflects Upon the Giants Winning the NFC East and Making the Wild Card Round Against Carolina

I am currently morphing into my alter ego, somewhat like the incredible hulk used to do. Before I change my persona, I wish to thank my friend Jim for the consideration of a playoff ticket. I understand perfectly. If the Giants happen to have another playoff game at home, I would be delighted to aaaaaaaaaaaaaaattteennnnnnd,

"Oh no!" What is happening? I seem to be losing my focus and and and; "What do you mean another home game in the playoffs?" The Professor says no way! They were lucky to get the home game this Sunday against the Panthers. The Giants will beat the Carolina Pussycats. Antonio Pierce is back with a vengence helping to control the ground attack. Unfortunately, that means more passing.

The Giants secondary shoud be called Toast to the Fourth Power. (Remember Elvis Patterson's nickname?). The defense will overcome it the way they have all year. Their defensive bookends, Mr's.Strahan, and Umenyiora, will save the day with devastating pass rushing. It will be as most games this year have been, a real frustrating annoying pain in the butt. However, Giants by a nine point margin.

Now, they go on the road. End of playoffs for Big Blue. It is too much to expect of a young quarterback who throws too often off his back foot. He misses too many open receivers downfield. That takes away the deep ball. He has also been throwing into crowds, and you can depend on at least one batted ball by a lineman that pops into the air for a near interception.

No, No, No, I hate to say it. There will be no home game after Sunday, there will be just one more away game, wherever. Then it is wait till next year. Get some great defensive back playmakers in the draft and away we go in 2006. The Professor has spoken.

December 7, 2005: The Professor Reacts to the Squeaker over Dallas

All the professor has to say is, the Giants have to play better on offense or it is a mute point. They will go nowhere in the playoffs. I have never seen a team dominate an opponent so often and either lose, or almost lose the games. They will beat Philly. They should. Considering they have no running or passing game to speak of at this time. The Giants better score early and not let them hang around. The Redskins pose a problem because they are still in the hunt, barely. The Giants don't always play well in their building and they are still smarting from the drubbing the Vikings gave them, as you may recall. Kansas City is going to be a loss. Oakland has quarterback problems and is missing Sapp. That will be a win. I feel my prediction of 10-6 is looking pretty good. Dallas plays K.C. Sunday, so that is two games up for the Giants. That probably gives them the division. But, with this team you never know which G-Men will show up. It is going to be interesting. The Professor.

November 15, 2005: The Professor Adds to his Games List

The Professor would like to add two games to his most favorite and unfavorite games.

To be added to favorite games, Oct 30, 2005. The Giants demolish the Redskins 36-0. Joe Gibbs is shutout for the first time in the regular season. What a tribute to Mr. Mara.

Now for an addition to unfavorite games. Giants make NFL history while losing to the Vikings, 24-21. They give up touchdowns on an interception, kick-off, and punt return. Then, the defense decides to give up their only points in the last minute by surrendering a field goal.

November 2, 2005: The Giants Make the Playoffs? ---- "Get Ooouuutt!"

Well, here we are again. I haven't spoken to you since my July prediction. Not too bad I must say. A record of 10-6 is looking like a possiblity. Washington and Philly are tied with Dallas. But as of now, Dallas looks to be the biggest problem for the Mighty G-Men. Have no fear. Big Blue rolls over them at the Meadowlands.

I do have a funny feeling in the pit of my stomach, however. I have a definite indigestion caused by the thoughts of the upcoming game on the West Coast. This is a game that causes Giant fans to question why they belong to that organization we call Mara Tech. Can you understand my apprehension? If there was ever a game for a letdown, this is it. San Francisco has been a thorn in our side in the past.

This is a perfect opportunity for the Giants to underachieve. I look at this game as a major key to our hopes to making the playoffs. Win this Sunday, and then it is the Minnesota Love Boaters at home the following Sunday, without Capt. Cullpepper. Isn't it so appropriate that they signed Jesse "the bachelor" Palmer. Did they sign him for his inside info on the Giants? Or is it for his insights on how to "score?"

The Giants will crush the "Love Boaters" no question. It is the" Forty-niners" that worry the heck out of me. Beat San Fran and I see a playoff birth. The Giants are 7-2 going into that four game tough stretch after Minnesota. Lose on Sunday to the Niners and it is 6-3 meeting Dallas, Phiily and Seattle. I predict a win at San Fran, but be get the anti-perspirants ready. This could be on of those ugly victories.

The Professor has everything he can cross, crossed. Everything that can be rubbed for luck has been rubbed. Every birthday candle wish has been made. Giants over the "49-ers" by a score of 23-20. The game decide late by a Feely three pointer from a distance of between 45 and 50 yards.

July 29, 2005: Training Camp Begins

I do believe the Redskins will be competition for the Giants, however, as long as Mcnabb is quarterbacking the Eagles, I see them as the team to beat. The Giants have not been able to solve them for several seasons. They can be counted on to beat Washington at least once each year.

The most improved area is the offensive line. McKenzie from the Jets will help tremendously in two ways. He brings All-Pro skills to the tackle postion and adds depth to the line. The Giants can actually say they have a great deal of depth on the offensive line. Give Eli time, and he is going to do some damage. You could see that in and after the Pittsburgh game last season.

They have also improved the depth at linebacker. Overall I would say they have the most talent on the team since the last Super Bowl year.

With some luck and few key injuries I can see 10-6 as a record. That is a playoff berth. I do think it is very possible. However, we both know how the Giants can shoot themselves in the foot each Sunday.
